Wedgeport Tuna Tournament & Festival

Every August, the spirit of Wedgeport's celebrated fishing history roars back to life with the annual Wedgeport Tuna Tournament & Festival. This week-long event revives the village's legacy as the "Sport Tuna Fishing Capital of the World," drawing anglers and visitors from far and wide. The Wedgeport Sport Tuna Fishing Museum and Interpretive Centre serves as the undisputed focal point of the entire celebration. Located right next to the historic Tuna Wharf, the museum transforms into the official headquarters for the tournament—hosting the captains' send-offs, displaying the day's catches, and serving as the gathering spot for all festival-goers to celebrate the thrill of the chase and the rich maritime heritage of the Acadian Shores.

Two Committees Working in Partnership

The success of the annual August festivities hinges on the close partnership between the Wedgeport Tuna Tournament & Festival Committee and the Wedgeport Sport Tuna Fishing Museum Committee. During Tournament Week, our two groups work hand-in-hand to manage events, host visitors, and honour Wedgeport’s history.

Crucially, the Tuna Tournament is the primary yearly fundraiser for the Museum, providing vital financial support that keeps our exhibits and interpretive center running. We are profoundly grateful for this sustained commitment and funding from our sister committee, which allows us to continue preserving and celebrating this community's unique legacy as the "Sport Tuna Fishing Capital of the World."
